PORT-CROS SYMPOSIUM

As part of its partnership with Port-Cros National Park, every other year the Foundation organises a symposium on an interdisciplinary topic relating to marine biodiversity, designed to satisfy three objectives.

First, to generate reflection, debate and action with a view to reconciling the desire for strong economic activity and the need to preserve biodiversity.

Secondly, to bring together marine experts working in a variety of different fields: natural sciences, economic sciences and social sciences, nature preservation associations and maritime sector professionals.

Finally, to foster greater public awareness of the need to preserve biological diversity. Previous symposiums have examined tourism and biodiversity (2000), fishing and biodiversity (2003), deep-sea biodiversity (2005) and climate change and biodiversity of the marine ecosystems.

A widely distributed report is prepared after each symposium.
